FAU institutions and clients have the option to run virtual machines on RRZE’s VMware cluster. The provision of a virtual system is similar to the Server Housing service (but with virtual hardware). Additionally, RRZE offers server maintenance contracts for these virtual machines. This corresponds to the service scope of Server Hosting. By virtualizing server hardware on a high-availability virtualization platform, customers gain additional flexibility in the sizing of the desired resources.
The server virtualization includes:
- Setup of a virtual machine (VM) with the desired configuration
- Parameters: vCPUs / vRAM in GB / Disk Storage in GB on SATA / SSD drives (VM configurator)
- Operation of the VM on a high-availability virtualization platform
- Console access to the VM via vSphere Web Client
